Settings: Named Workspaces

PRO Feature

Named workspaces require FazerWM Pro. On the free tier only automatic numbered workspaces exist. Saved named workspaces are kept and come back when you upgrade.

Workspace

Short label:work

Optional short label shown in menubar, SketchyBar, and the overview overlay's edge markers. Falls back to workspace name.

Assignment

Visible on all matched displays. Falls back to primary if none available.

Presence:Always

'Always' keeps the workspace visible. 'On-demand' creates it when a window targets it.

The pane is a two-column editor: the workspace list on the left (with ＋ / － buttons and a context-menu Delete), and the detail editor on the right for whichever workspace is selected. ＋ appends a New Workspace and selects it.
－ and the row's context menu delete the selected workspace.
The ▲ / ▼ buttons in the detail header reorder the list; named workspaces appear in this order, before the numbered workspaces, in the Overview and workspace indicators.

Detail editor

Control	What it sets	Config key
Workspace name	The unique identifier. Renaming here also rewrites any window rules that target the old name, so rules never break after a rename. Duplicate names are rejected inline.	`namedWorkspaces[].name`
Short label	Optional compact label for the menu bar, SketchyBar, and the overview overlay's edge markers; falls back to the full name.	`namedWorkspaces[].label`
Displays (chips)	Pin the workspace to specific displays via a picker of your connected screens (plus the `primary` keyword). Empty means All Displays.	`namedWorkspaces[].displays`
Presence	Always keeps the workspace visible even when empty; On-demand creates it only when a window rule or move targets it, and removes it again once empty.	`namedWorkspaces[].presence`
Focus	Shortcut that switches to this workspace. Record it like any keybind.	`namedWorkspaces[].focus`
Move window	Shortcut that sends the focused window here.	`namedWorkspaces[].moveWindow`
Move column	Shortcut that sends the focused column here.	`namedWorkspaces[].moveColumn`

All three keybindings follow the Hyper grammar: focus is hyper+key, move column hyper+loption+key, move window hyper+lshift+key.

💡 Comments and the GUI

Comments inside the namedWorkspaces array are removed when the list is edited through this pane (same for windowRules); the GUI rewrites those blocks structurally. Keep hand-written commentary above the array, or edit the YAML directly and hot-reload.
